How Can I Get Rid Of Mind-Your-Own-Business?
My Garden Is Being Taken Over And I Can'T Rake It Out Without Disturbing My Wild Primroses. Is There Such A Thing As A Selective Weedkiller That Won'T Harm The Primroses Or My Oak Tree.
I am an antipoison person. I bought a house and also had an overgrown garden with things I wanted and didnt want. Answer...labor. I used a handshovel and dug up all the ground around. I left the plants I wanted but dug deep around them. After I got the soil loose, I mulched the whole area about 6 inches deep around the plants I wanted and 8 inches deep where the weeds had taken over. No need to buy expensive mulch...almost anything will do. Shredded leaves from the trees, old tree bark, rot from decomposing trees in the woods, pine needles, almost any of this will do if you have this stuff available. Shredded oak leaves make a beautiful mulch. For about $30 you can buy a leaf suckerupper than mulches and shreds at the same time. Weedkillers really arent all that selective. You may poison the ground and then find that new plants that you put in will die.
Is My Rabbit Supposed To Stay In Her Litter Box?
I Just Got My First Bunny And I Was Surprised To Learn That I Could Potty Train Her. So At First I Had Her On The Recycled Paper Bedding And She Just Peed And Pooped Everywhere And She Would Never Do Anything In Her Litter Box. I Had Wood Chippings In The Litter Box. So I Decided That I Would Switch The Bedding. So I Put The Recycled Paper In The Litter Box And The Wood Chippings On The Cage Bottom. Now My Bunny Is Living In Her Litter Box And Won'T Come Out At All, She Just Comes Out To Poop On The Wood Chips But I Clean It Up Right Away. How Am I Supposed To Get Her Out Of The Litter Box? I Don'T Liek Her Lying In Poop And Pee. Also What Type Of Toys Can I Get To Entertain Her?
Hopefully the wood chips that you are using aren't pine or cedar, since it may result in respiratory problems.
I would line the cage with newspaper and the litter box with the recycled paper. The newspaper would make it easier to clean up too. So let's say she pees, then you just simply tear out the part where she peed and put it in her litter box and cover it up with the recycled paper. Clean up after her poop and place some of it in her litter box. Just keep doing that, it can take a day to several weeks (usually 2). She will soon get the idea, bunnies are creatures of habit after all.Don't let her have free roam of the house, maybe just a particular room until she is litter trained. Also, if there's a certain area that she pees, maybe you can move the litter box there instead, unless you have a designated spot for her. When she is finally litter trained, you can let her explore several rooms, but make sure you put a litter box in each.
It took my baby bunny about a week for him to pee in the litter box. Sometimes he misses, and it's right next to the box, but it's a matter of getting a bigger litter box for him.
Mine sits in his litter box too. I put hay in the litter box too, kind of like a reward for peeing in the box, you should do that too if you haven't done so already. Put a handful of hay in a corner of the litter box...bunnies usually poop and eat at the same time, since consuming more food helps to push the digested food out. But if you are concerned about her sitting in her pee and poop, you can also buy some baby type wipes at the petstore to help clean her up, it's safe and dries fast. But you can't disallow her from sitting in her litter box entirely. So just keep her clean, wipe her once a day or every other day and clean the litter box often (I clean mine every other day).
I have a straw mat that I line the cage with for my bunny, he loves laying and chewing on it. I have a few wooden chew toys for him too, a tube and some boxes for him to climb. Some ferret and cat toys are good too, but make sure it's not a choking hazard. I got mine a baseball looking toy that's made of natural grass and wood that he loves chewing on. My boyfriend has a bottom shelf that we lined with newspaper and a few toys for him to sit there in chill, since they like dark places. I also have a "sandbox" it's a simple cat litter box with about 2-3 inches of sand in it that he loves to play in, since bunnies love to dig, so I thought dirt was too gross and dirty, but sand isn't as much and it doesn't get stuck to his fur. I also hide some treats in the sand for him as well.
Hope this helps =)
Does Anyone Know Any Pros Or Cons About The Camera Nikon D40x.?
Do You Need That Many Megapixels.
Dr. Sam's overview of the megapixel question is excellent, but I can add some specific information about the D40x as I bought one a little over a month ago and have taken several hundred pictures with it. I've also introduced two of my children to photography through the D40x and a couple of "photo safaris" we've taken.
The experience with my kids really highlights the D40x's strength, which is that it's incredibly easy to pick up and start taking stunning photographs. If all you do is leave it in "auto" mode and use it as a "point and shoot," you'll end up with the best-looking snapshots you've ever taken. But if you're willing to learn a couple of simple adjustments -- simple settings on the top of the camera, mostly -- you can take your photography to a whole new level.
Case in point: the D40x comes with a "flower" icon on the selector dial, which presets the camera for close-up work. You get a very tight "depth of field," which means the distance from the lens that is in focus; anything closer or farther from this depth of field will be blurry. Here's a shot my 10-year-old son took using this preset:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lightningch...
There's also a "mountain" icon which presets the camera to give you a much, much greater depth of field, suitable for landscapes and long shots. Think of it--if you're shooting a picture of a log cabin 100 yards away with trees 500 yards farther and a mountain a half-mile behind that, you want them ALL in focus, right? Here's a shot I took with the "mountain" (landscape) preset:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfisher71/5...
You can see details in the ferns in the foreground and also in the fir and pine needles in the distance. (Check it out in one of the larger settings to see more about that.)
There's also an "action" icon (a running stick-figure) which optimizes the camera's settings for motion shots. Since a large portion of my old film photographs include race cars and other forms of motorsport, this was a big attraction for me. I did a test session with my son out at his school's playground a few weeks ago, in which he was playing with a rubber-band powered airplane. Those shots are here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfisher71/s...
As you can see from several of them, the "action" setting captured it in the midst of some pretty rapid movements.
And for those of us who learned to take pictures using cameras where we had to set the F-stop, film speed (remember film?
and shutter speed, the D40x will let you change settings individually in "P," or program, mode. In addition to the usual settings, you can change the white balance (that is, the preset values for red, green and blue in the pixels of your image) to compensate for various kinds of lighting. (I used to have to do this by purchasing "indoor" and "outdoor" film, and then I was stuck shooting the entire roll with the film stock that was in the camera; it's a joy to be able to switch white-balance from one photo to the next.)
How do you find out about all this? The store at which I bought my D40x (Pro Photo Supply in Portland, OR) regularly has seminars with the Nikon rep, which I highly recommend. She walked us through a selection of these settings, gave a brief talk about composition (the "rule of thirds"), and more. It was a very worthwhile two hours, probably saved me weeks worth of experimentation.
The key limitation to the D40x (and D40) is that it doesn't have a built-in autofocus motor (as used on other Nikon cameras), so you are restricted to the AF-S and AF-I autofocus lenses. If you're starting a photography business, as Dr. Sam's friend was, this will eventually limit your selection of lenses. But if you're looking to move up to a DSLR with a lot of power and the ability to create some really GREAT images, the D40x is an excellent choice.
And you should also definitely check out Flickr, not only for the pictures but for the discussion about photography from millions of hobbyists, professionals, and artists. It's a great community of people who are actively pursuing photography as a passionate form of self-expression. Do Sugar Canes Have Seeds?
And If So, Where Would They Be In The Plant? If Not, How Would I Plant One Sugar Cane From Another?
Sugar cane will make seeds but it takes two summers and the seeds will not grow true to type. Each seed will produce a different plant than the parents. Most places do not have a winter mild enough for the canes to be left over winter and allowed to bloom. For this reason sugar cane is propagated by planting the stalks, which contain 'eyes' at the joints. The eyes will produce new plants and each will produce for several years if the roots don't freeze. I have two types growing, one is made for chewing and one for making syrup. The chewing cane is softer but has less sugar in the sap. The syrup type is too hard to chew but it contains more sugar and produces a better quality syrup. You can usually find sugar cane being sold at roadside stands in the south each fall. Occasionally you can find it in grocery stores, as well. When you find some you want to grow plant it about 4 inches deep and protect from freezing during the winter. The next spring it should grow beginning in March or April. Once it is about 6 inches tall feed it with some 6-6-6 fertilizer and keep it well watered. Feed it about 3 times during the summer, 1/2 pound per plant per feeding once it reaches 4 feet tall. Harvest in the fall before you get your first frost. If storing over the winter bury it about 6 inches deep in a hole lined with either hay or pine straw and cover with the soil removed from the hole. Make sure you re-bury it each time you open the trench during the winter or the stalks will freeze and spoil.
Good luck and enjoy!
I Need Advice To Protect My Daughter Please.?
Ok During The Course Of Our Marriage There Was Alot Of Physical And Mental Abuse. Enough To The Point Where I Actually Got On Meds For Bi-Polor Disorder Because I Thought Is Was All My Fault ( I Had Never Had A History Of Mental Illness Before) I Hated Myself And I Was Convinced Everything That Happened Was All My Fault. In The End The Meds Never Helped They Made Me Such A Zombie That It Took Everything I Had Just To Peel Myself Up Off The Couch To Use The Restroom It Was Misrable. I Finally Realized After Almost 2 Years It Wasnt Me When We Moved In With Family Because My Husband Discharged From The Military And They Began To See The Abuse And Worry For Me. Asking If I Really Needed The Meds And Maybe With Support I Should See If I Could Function Better Without The Meds. So After Talking To My Dr. I Began To Ween Off The Meds. After Being 5 Weeks Off Me Meds I Felt Wonderful. I Was Loosing Weight And Taking Care Of Myself And My Children Again. I Told My Husband He Was Furious That I Had Made This Choice Without Him And The First Chance He Got When No One Was Home But Us He Had Me Pinned To The Kitchen Floor By My Hair. Pining Me And Yelling About A Pile Of Laundry I Hadnt Washed. Something So Simple, Had He Just Asked I Would Have Told Him It Was Whites And There Wasnt Enough For A Full Load Yet Lol. Anyway I Decided This Was The Last Straw And I Waited For Him To Go To Work The Next Day And Called Him And Told Him He Was Not Welcome Back At The House. I Have A 2 Year Old Daughter. I Have Had Black Eyes, I Have Scars On My Wrist From Him Sqeezing Them So Tight It Left Something I Could Best Discribe As Rug Burn But Without Any Rug Envolved. I Even Cut Like 14 Inches Off My Hair At One Point To Try To Advoid Being Pulled Around By It. None Of That Hurt As Much As The Mental Pain Of Thinkiing It Was My Fault And I Was Useless And Worthless And I Was An Embarrisment If I Could Just Be Better He Would Stop Being Mean....It Was Always My Fault. I Have A Baby Girl That I Feel Like I Cant Protect Now. Never Once Was I Intelligent Enough To Just Call The Police. Other Then A Few Scars And A Couple Pictures There Is No Proof Any Of This Went On And No One Seems To Be Listening To Me. My Lawyer Keeps Wanting Me To Comprmise With Parenting Time In Order To Get Other Things Such As Permission To Take Vacation. And I'M Sorry I Would Rather Loose Money On My Palne Tickets Then Give Parenting Time To This Man. I Keep Being Told That In The End He Will Get Parenting Time No Matter What And I Should Just Give In A Little Bit Right Now. We Have A 2 Year Old Daughter Who Is Totally Innocent In All Of This. I Feel So Bad For Her And What She Is Going To Have To Go Thru In The Future. Im So Afraid He Is Going To Treat Her The Way He Treated Me And She Is To Little To Tell Me Or Tell Anyone. 3 Months Ago I Let Him Have Parenting Time And She Came Home With A Black Eye And He Told Me She Feel ( 2 Year Olds Do Fall I Understand That) But The Visitation After That She Sreamed And Cried And Reached For Me Saying No Mommy No!!! And It Broke My Heart. So Since There Is No Court Order I Have Not Made Her Go Back Since. I Dont Know What To Do I Recommened Supervised Visitation And I Keep Being Told With No Police Record Of The Abuse I'Ll Never Get That And I'M Being Unreasonable. Its So Frustrating And I'M At A Loss Now. I Knwo He'S Mean And Hateful And Capable Of Being Extrememly Abbusive But Everyone Around Me Seems To See Him And This Honeralable Purple Heart Vetran That Fought For Our Counrty Over In Iraq. I Have All The Respect In The Worlld For The Men And Women Overseas And I Believe They Work Hard And Are Wonderful People For Doing What They Do. But Just Because He Did These Great Things For The Country Doesnt Mean He Didnt Do These Things To Me. How Do I Get People To See That This Is My Daughters Safety???? Does Anyone Have Any Advice?????
Hi Stephylv
I feel very sad for your situation. I too have been in a similar
situation where my husband was threatening to kill me. It was only
then that I realised there was a very real problem, and made the
decision that I did not want my daughter to grow up with the abuse he
had been throwing at me for years. He never hit me, but he beat up on
our pets, and used cunning and lies to bend my perception of reality
so that I never knew what was real and wasn't real, during that time
that dreams blend into waking life when we are sleep deprived with a
newborn. Psychological, emotional and mental abuse is just as
dangerous as physical.
You say there is no support for you because you have not involved the
police? So where you come from emotional and mental abuse do not count
as abuse? The fact that you were on medication for a condition you did
not have, and were suffering enough to have to seek help, should argue
in your favour.
I do not know the law where you are, but here in NZ, just the raising
of a fist with the intention to harm is considered abuse, and grounds
to not only leave your partner, but to have visitation with any
children with held.
Your daughter returned with a black eye, and the next time she did not
want to go with him. Did you take her to the Dr when she was bruised?
Did you document the occurrence. Did anyone else see her response? Can
you go to someone who can vouch for her behaviour in front of her
father?
I wish I could offer you more. Here, in NZ, we have women's shelters,
where the men cannot find us. They have support networks in place to
help mothers keep their children safe from abusive fathers. Maybe
there is something where you are also?
Other than that, I can offer very little to you. Find a good support
network that will hold you up when you no longer have the strength to
stand on your own. I am lucky to have found many wonderful friends who
support me. Once you are no longer in survival mode, give back.
Best of luck to you sister
Love and light
