Rajnish Jain – Generating clean energy from destructive pine needles

Advantages of Long Leaf Pine Straw in your landscaping: It supplies the perfect level of acidity for your plants to take in optimum soil nutrients It does not drift and remove and breaks down more gradually, so it does not require to be reapplied as regularly as other mulches It is easier to deal with and lighter per cubic foot than other mulches: one large bale can cover as much location as 30 cubic feet of most mulches the expense per square foot is competitive with other mulches It breathes much better, doesn't compact, and enables better water seepage It is simple to use: just unroll the bales and scatter by hand It does not bring in termites It includes organic product and nutrients to soil and decreases weeds The consistent color and fine texture of pine straw draws out the color, contrast, and texture of your landscape You can use it for erosion control where lawn won't grow to hold soil, even on hillsides and courses

What Is The Only Gun Needed To Survive For A Year?
I'M Looking For A Gun (Preferably Rifle) $400 Or Less That I Can Use For Hunting Rabbits, Deer And Also Defend Myself Against Bears (Brown Bears). I Would Like Something That Has Fairly Light Weight And Cheap Ammo That I Could Carry Enough To Last Me A Year Out In The Wilderness And Feed 2 People. Never Been Hunting Before But Me And A Friend Will Be Trying Out The &Quot;Roughing It Lifestyle&Quot; And He Suggested Getting A Bolt Action 30-06. Any Advice And Suggestions Are Greatly Appreciated.

Ok first off you need to practice before going a full year. Take a few day trip, then a few weeks trip and then a 6 month trip.
You need to keep the weight you carry to a minimum. All my gear, clothes, gun and ammo for long wilderness trips weighs under 45 pounds. I carry a .338 win mag rifle with scope and synthetic stock and also a Ruger mark 2 .22LR pistol with a 6+ inch barrel. I use traps and snares for small game and if need be big game like deer. I have made 2 boxes of .338 win mag last for over 6 months and I only fired off 4 shots; one for a deer to make jerky and the other 3 to scare off bears. I did use about 40 rounds of .22LR for camp meat. This left over 200 rounds.
Unless you want to get arrested you follow fish and game laws as I did in the Rockies and here in Alaska. There are non-game animals and some small game animals allowed to be taken year round. Supplement small game with wild plants, tubers, berries, certain kinds of tree sap, rose hips, mushrooms and grains from grass seeds etc. The best meal that has what your body needs to survive is a soup with a variety of things in it. You can starve to death with a full belly of lean meat. You have to have vitamins, carbohydrates and fat to survive. Early arctic explorers starved by eating nothing but lean seal meat until natives had them eat seal fat. So after some weeks if you feel weak and sick you need to eat things to get better in a hurry and that may be bugs which are rich in protein, fat and carbs, beetle larva such as the pine or spruce bark beetle will pump up the energy you need. Don’t over look aquatic animals and fish and don’t throw fish heads away they make a very healthy soup. Bone marrow has good things you need so boil the whole rabbit minus the intestines and fur.
So get some books on edible plants and mush rooms that have CLEAR photos and descriptions of poisonous look-a-likes. Get another book on eatable insects and where and when to find them. Yet another book on making traps, snares, dead fall traps and primitive weapons. My favorite small game weapon was the apache throwing star. Here is a crude one;

These look like the ones I make;
http://wiki.cantr.net/images/a/a9/Apache...
You can kill birds and small game with it without scaring off other game.

Big a metal pot to boil water and make soup and some water purification tablets a water purifying filter such as the straw types are very handy.
Always go with someone. I have gone alone many times for extended trips and almost died a few times because there wasn’t any one with me. Let people know where to look for you.
And lastly you have to have everything ready for winter, if you don’t you die. In snow areas this is really a matter of life or death. You will have to make snow shoes and a sled to pull game or gear with and have enough firewood and food ready for months of winter & a good shelter.
Learn all your skills BEFORE you go on any long trip.
Read up all you can. And its wise to carry a personal locater such as S.P.O.T that sends an emergency message via satellite to search and rescue. They didn’t have those in the 80s and I nearly died and wished I had one back then.
Remember most people die in the wilderness from falling, exposure, drowning, hypothermia, heart attacks and eating the wrong thing FAR more than a bear or mountain lion attack.

Hunting Logged Property And Planted Pines...?
A While Back I Asked A Question About How Logging Would Affect Deer Hunting On My Property.. Well, Deer Season Is Right Around The Corner And I'M Not Sure What The Best Way To Go About Hunting The Logged Land Would Be. Any Ideas? Also, I May Be Able To Hunt Some Planted Pines This Year That A Local Logging Company Has Planted. What Is The Best Way To Go About Hunting That? I Don'T Have A Stand- Can'T Afford One And I Don'T Have The Lumber To Make One, So I'Ll Be Hunting On The Ground. I'Ve Never Used A Blind Before And With My New Glasses I'M Concerned About The Glare And I Can'T Afford To Get Contacts (I'Ve Mentioned My Glasses Before Regarding Deer Hunting), So Besides Sitting With The Sun To My Back, Do Yall Have Any Ideas On How To Go About Hunting With Glasses? I'M Not Sure Of The Range/S That I May Be Taking Deer At, But It'S No More Than About 90 Yards.. Would It Be Better To Get My Rifle Sighted In About That Far Or What Would Be A Better Range To Sight My Rifle In At? Now.. About Scent Cover. Does One Brand Of The Sent-Cover Soap/Detergent Work Better Than Another? Or Is There A Way To Cover My Scent Without Having To Buy Something? Maybe Getting Green Pine Needles And Other Green Leaves And Smashing Them To Get The Smells/Oils Out Of The Leaves And Putting That In A Bag With What I'Ll Be Wearing To Hunt In? One More Question- Will Using A Knee Brace While Hunting Have Any Draw Backs? I Can'T Find Any Camo Pants That Are Affordable And That Can Fit Me B/C All Of The Hunting Clothing I'Ve Found Around Here Is For Men (Wonderful Being A Girl Sometimes Lol) Thanks In Advance And Sorry For So Many Questions... I'M Just Determined To Get A Deer Or Two This Year.

If the logged land has young, succulent shoots, it's a good bet, but hunt the edge where the trees are. The planted pines: find where they are moving (a trail for instance) or feeding or watering. If palmetto berries are abundant, hunt close to them if they are in your area.

For glare: wear a hat. lean a leafy bush over you to provide shade.

sight according to rifle. brush gun @ 100 yds. long range rifle sight in at 200 yds, as you may need a long shot(will be a bit high at close range, but within the lethal target area) or look at ballistic report and sight high at 100yds (1.2" high @ 100yds for .270, or somethin like that, dont remember) to be dead on @ 100yds

Scent: rub something natural and local all over you, if livestock are nearby, rub on a cow or horse or something. Scent eliminator works alright, but natural is better.

you should know what kind of boundaries the knee-brace will give you.

screw camo, i dont use it. just hide good. hide behind some bushes or stump pile or roll of hay or anything. i've stood behind a post and made kills less than 50 yds. just be still and quiet.

What Can I Plant Right Now That Will Be Successful. I Heard Blueberries Can Be Planted Late Into The Summer?

Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. Your climate zone will play a big part on planting now. I live in zone 7 and have planted trees, flowers and shrub this time of year. The main goal is to properly prepare your ground and once specimens are planted, get on a good watering schedule. You can apply pine straw, mulch or decorative rocks around the plants to help retain the moisture in the ground.

If you live in a warm and hot climate, I do usually recommend to wait until fall to plant large trees and bigger shrubs. An idea for you to think about is go ahead and plan for some annual or pernnial flowers that will bloom in the fall. Sedum is a great flower for fall color as well as Mums. If you live in an area where the ground doesn't freeze in winter, in the fall you can plant some Camellias and Pieis Japonicas and have color throughout the winter months.

I will link you to the gallery of plants section and the variety of more plant section of my website. There are many different photos of plants, with climate zones and descriptions. These pages many give you additional ideas to think about planting now and in the fall. I hope this information helps some. Another idea is to plant some herbs. You can put them in containers and use them year around. I will link you to the spices and herb section also. There are varieties you could grow now. Have a great day!

How Should I Care For A Young Blue Bird?
I Found This Baby Blue Bird. He Had Fallen Out On His Nest. It Can'T Fly, And Still Is About Half Downy, But Some Feathers Are On His Back End. He'Ll Eat Grasshoppers, Fed With Tweezers, But It There Anything Else I Can Do For Him? I Have Him In A Cage With Pine Straw And Leaves On The Bottom, And Some Perches. I'M Planning On Letting Him Loose When He Is Ready. Thanks In Advance!!!

If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly. You need to replace it where you found it, preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it. If it is unfeathered, then look for a nest and if you can find it, replace it into the nest. Do not worry about your scent being on the chick as birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will not reject a baby that has been touched. If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival. Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own. All birds in the U.S. are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Look for a rehab here:

I Need To Know Were I Can Find Lycopodium.?
The Other Day In My Chemistry Class My Teacher Set Up And Eve Straw Up By A Clamp, And Placed A Candle Under It. After That He Got A Scoop Of This Powdery Substance And Dumped It Into The Eve Straw And When It Hit The Candle It Made An Awesome Flame Explosion, Like Pyro. When I Asked Him Were I Could Find Something Like That He Laughed At Me And Said Ooh.. Somewhere, Lol. When He Left The Room I Went And Read The Bottle And It Said &Quot;Lycopodium&Quot;. I Don'T Know If This Is What Its Called But I Would Like To Find Out How, And If I Could Possibly Get My Hands On Some Of This, And Were I Could Find It. And If Anyone Knows What I'M Talking About And Knows The Correct Term For It That Would Be Helpful As Well. My Main Purpose For Wanting Something Like This Is For Some Kind Of Pyro Effect For My Band When We Play Live, Ive Been Thinking Up A Contraption That I Could Make So That I Wouldn'T Have To Do The Flame By Hand. Thanks To Anyone With A Good Answer

The name Lycopodium is correct; that are spores of Lycopodium clavatum, Ground Pine:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycopodium_...

It`s used by fire breathers and you will find it in shops selling accessories for illusionists. But you should look for advice before you use it!!!

PS
In my country you also get it in those pharmacies, where still handmade pills are produces. They use Lycopodium to hinder conglutination of these pills.
